LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially depraved. This is sometimes an extremely tough or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel at ease within a conventional rehab facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for drug abuse, and is also an illustration of something would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
