A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and help for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending those who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home can help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in the group home may be involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some point live independently outside of the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a feasible short term option for individuals who making the effort to get their lives back together.
