Criminal justice client rehabs are available like a far better option than incarceration or significant fines for individuals who have been convicted of any sort of drug or alcohol related crime. For example, someone who has been in prison for dui of alcohol or drugs may qualify to get rehab services because of their problem instead of serving time in jail. The judge could even order the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or along with other sentencing. First-time offenders specifically are often given the chance to select a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended that they take advantage of it if it is an option. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is way more efficient and effective to invest effort and time into treatment than punishment. Much research has been done to see how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following treatment. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do take part in rehab have a much better probability of remaining out of the judicial system following rehab.
