A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach 24/7. People who reside within a group home might be involved in treatment services while in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some time live on their own outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, but it is a feasible temporary option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
